The Study Band

Band biographies are typically written to look as though someone other than the band has written them.  I, Eric Morelli of The Study Band, have no one who knows me like I do, so this has to be done in first person.
I moved back from California to my home state of Pennsylvania in the summer of 2006.  The plan was simple.  Andrew King and I were set to record an album and follow it to whatever end.  The concept was loosely based on a story that Chris Couse and I had started to write three years earlier for our band, Westward View.  Everything was to be recorded by us, as a completely independent endeavor.  By the end of summer we hadn't made much headway.    Both of us were unsure of the sound, and frankly a bit overwhelmed by the pressure of completing something that we could stand behind.  Andrew left the band in August and is now attending a school for the recording arts.
As sad as it was to see Andy go, it gave me a new sense of self reliance.  Without anybody to lean on, my work found new purpose.  I rounded out the story and began demoing versions of a few songs.  It was apparent that my recording technique was lacking, and it would be a while before the songs could be captured the way that I had envisioned.  To keep the progress steady on both fronts(writing and recording), more care was taken in recording songs for my side project , Unicorns and Mustaches.  U&M began in CA as a way for me to keep a sort of musical journal online.  It continues to this day.  The Study demo's were kept quick and free to leave some joy for the final recording process, focusing more on the actual song writing.
Brooke Reynolds joined the band on violin, and I wish I could describe to you how amazing she is.  You'll just have to wait and see.  She laid down every track in a matter of four days, with most songs sight unseen.  Derek Salazar was later added on drums and Cody Rivett is set to play bass.  I really look forward to collaborating with these gents on the next album.  As I write this, the songs are three to four days from completion.  Tours are being scheduled and everything is shaping up nicely.  finally.
